Why You Should Never Go On A Diet

At some point in your life, whether it was 5 years ago or 5 years from now, you’re going to realize you’ve been eating like crap and you’re going to attempt to get your act together. So what are you going to do you ask? You’re going to go on some B.S diet…

Now don’t get me wrong, I think we all should be making a conscious effort to know what we’re putting into out bodies. I’m all about mind, body, spirit balance and if you’re not fueling your body right, you’re going to face the consequences, but sometimes donuts are the fuel that my body needs.

My beef with diets is that diets always have one goal, which is to cut out the stuff thats bad for you and insert other stuff that someone deemed better that the other stuff and this will make you lose weight! MAGIC!!!! That means you’re fully relying on will power to lose weight and if you’re anything like me, I have negative will power in the face of a good plate of calamari from The Left Bank. We’re not stupid! We know ice cream is bad for us and mashed potatoes and Doritos and Chick-fil-a (Oh my god I love junk food), but do we stop eating it? NO! BECAUSE IT TASTES SO GOOD! What’s the first thing they tell you when you start a diet? Beat the cravings! After 3 weeks you won’t even want that stuff! Ok Branda… but what about during those 3 weeks? I’m tired of eating strawberries every time I want to stuff my face with Buffalo Wild Wings! So what should you do instead? Well it all comes back to what I said earlier! You have to be conscious of what you’re putting into your body. I read in a book the other day that diets and saving money are very similar. We all know how to save money, we have to take it and put it away and not touch it for a long time, but we just don’t do it and then complain that we have no money! With diets, we all know we need to burn more calories than we consume. It’s that simple! We just don’t do it because WE’RE SO LAZY!

So let’s make this super simple, if you want to eat an entire bag of hot Cheetos, go for it! But your butt better be hittin spin class for at least an hour later! And you better not do it again the next day! It’s okay to eat junk in small amounts if you realize that and compensate for it. You can’t be eating take out 4 days a week and going to the gym 4 days a week and expect to lose weight. Losing weight is a commitment and a long process and if you make conscious choices about what is going into your body, it can be a painless process.
I get pissed off at myself all the time because I eat good most of the time and I work about 4-6 days a week, but some weeks I won’t stick to that and I can see it reflected in my body. Do I bitch and moan about the fact that I don’t know why I’m fat and hate myself for it? NO! I take it in stride and learn from it and try to do better the next week. I will never regret eating 4 pieces of cheesecake even though it made me feel so sick and now I’m bloated like a small porpoise. I’ll do better the next day and work my butt off at the gym and better myself, junk food included.
